MCE in contract with Ministry of Water, Water commission of the Kingdom of Lesotho is undertaking design review & Contract administration and construction supervision of the Water supply system that involves: construction of transmission pipe lines and distribution network of 20.9km & 20.3km, transmission pipes of 1.8km & 2.2km, pressed steel reservoirs of 285m3& 248m3 for villages in Zone 3 in Berea and Zone 20 in Maseru districts respectively including communal water points;
MCE has signed a contract with Northern Region Water Board of Malawi for the water supply and sanitation design and construction supervision. The project includes rehabilitation of existing system upgrading and extension works for raw water pipeline. Liquid and solid waste management facilities, access roads, auxiliary building will be design. A baseline assessment will also be conducted.
In contract with Northern Region Water Board of Malawi MCE. The project is aimed at providing water supply and sanitation services to Nkhatabay town with design of water supply, and facilities including solid and liquid waste management facilities. The project scope includes baseline assessment and updating of situational analysis an develop alternative options and technical racking, gender analysis, ESIA screening and developing cost estimate.
MCE has signed a contract with Oromia Water Resources Development Bureau to conduct contract administration and construction supervision for two towns in Oromia Water Resources Bureaue. The project s aimed at providing improved access to clean water and sanitation. Sire Town has a total population of 34000 and Sendafa Beki 44,000.

MCE as a JV partner has signed a contract with the Addis Ababa Water and Sewerage Authority to undertake Detail Design, Environmental, Social and Economic Impacts Assessment and Tender Document Preparation of the Dam and Ancillary Structures, Pumping Stations, Wosserbi Treatment Plant, Transmission Main and Distribution Systems and the required civil works; to build the capacity of theAAWSA design supervision staff and to prepare and implement quality assurance plans throughout the assignment; and to prepare proposals for financing options and an implementation plan for the different components of the project.
MCE under contract with Amhara National Regional State Water, Irrigation and Energy Development Bureau MCE is is conducting capacity building and construction supervision of towns water supply. This includes conducting supervision of 250m3 elevated service reservoir,supervision of distribution networks of over 17km length with diam from 50-200mm HDPE. The project in capacity building component has also component of data collection and preparation of the business plan for the utility, Assessment of existing utility institutional set up and preparation of organization structure, training need assessment and recommendations on improvement for the five towns.
Conducting s MCE under contract with Amhara National Regional State Water, Irrigation and Energy Development Bureau MCE is is conducting capacity building and construction supervision of towns water supply and supervision of 50m3, 100m3, 2x300m3 and 500m3 service reservoirs, supervision of 20km long transmission line with diam. of 110 and 200mm distribution networks of over 68km length Contract administration and Management. The project in the capacity building component comprises data collection and preparation of the business plan for the utility Assessment of existing utility institutional set up and preparation of organization structure, training need assessment and recommendations on improvement to the four towns management and institutional setup.
MCE as sub consultant to UWP of South Africa had deployed two Resident engineers on the Lusaka Water Supply, sanitation and Drainage construction supervision project. The project is aimed at improving Lusaka city coverage of water supply sanitation and drainage. The project is funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) a United States Government Agency.
MCE as a JV partner is supervising Construction supervision of two industry zones in the outskirts of Addis Ababa. The project includes construction of road network, shades, civil and electrical works, waste water treatment plant and other infrastructure to make it ready for the investors.
MCE has just completed a feasibility study and design for Iron and Manganese removal treatment. The work also includes preparation of BoQs, cost estimates, specification and tender documents.
MCE with a contract with Addis Ababa Water and Sewerage Authority has completed an assignment with objective to obtain Potable water distribution and sewerage coverage percent of Addis Ababa City and prepare a road map document that addresses the long term supply and demand analysis and mismatch in the sector o propose strategic solutions that will meet the long term increasing demands of potable water supply and sanitation coverage of the city.
MCE as a lead consultant in association with Finnish Consulting Group (FCG) has completed consulting service to study alternative power source for pumping stations in Addis Ababa. The project is aimed at assessing and reviewing existing booster station and borehole sites which are exposed to power shortage and no electric power access and design economical,, technically environmentally feasible alternative source.
MCE with a contract with Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) MCE has undertaken a detail technical study and design o water supply and sanitation systems in targeted rural areas by producing potential sources assessment, feasibility study and detail design of water supply system sanitation. The study will create access to safe, adequate and accessible domestic water supply and sanitation and contribute improving health condition and increase productivity by reducing water-borne and related diseases in the project areas.
MCEwith a contract with the Ministry of Water Irrigation and Energy, has completed feasibility study and design works on selected sites to replace non functioning diesel based pumps by solar or wind hybrid with diesel systems in the regional state to ensure a sufficient potable water to the rural people by reducing green gas emission.

The work includes, Construction of site works, laying of pipes, buildings, roads and drainage, water supply, lightning, sewerage, drainage and other totalities as required.
MCEis undertaking a consulting service for Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Reduction and pressure management for the city of Mekele under contract with Mekelle Water Supply Service Office. The project is aimed at studying the existing NRW problem in the city and develop strategic plan to reduce the overall NRW from 25% to 17.5% by 2015. The project also includes designing network and establish efficient operatin and maintenance system, institutionalize NRW management, monitoring flow: inflows, outflows and wastages.
MCEunder contract withWaterAidEthiopiahas completed a consulting service of compost Market Assessment in Addis Ababa. The study examined the existing market potential market demand for various qualities of compost in Akaki sub city. The Study also examined willingness and ability of the market to cover the cost of composting as well as using the compost by the general public and micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in urban agriculture.
MCEunder contract withWaterAidEthiopiahas completed a consulting service for feasibility study of Small Scale Pit Emptying Service in Addis Ababa Akaki Sub City. The Consulting services was aimed to identify the level of pit emptying service that will help to implement environmentally sound, technically feasible, economically viable, no risk to public and works health and socially acceptable small scale pit emptying service in Akaki Sub City. The study is also aimed at providing proper business idea, technology and marketing strategy during implementation.
MCEunder contract with Shashemene City Administration has completed drainage network master plan study for the city. MCE carries out feasibility study, detailed Engineering design for the drainage system, produce external storm water layout plan, tender document preparation and Environmental and social Impact assessment.
MCEin Association with Artelia of Francehassigned a consultancy service agreement with Addis Ababa City Government for preparation of global Solid Waste Management Strategy for Addis Ababa Urban Area, Undertake solid waste characterization, preparation of detailed design and tender document preparation for construction of new sanitary landfill sites in Sendafa and closure of the current damp site at KosheRappi with land use plan and construction of transfer stations. The works also includes geotechnical investigation, topographic survey of the current and new landfill sites and the transfer stations.
MCEhas completed a consultancy service for Embassy of Switzerland in Ethiopia, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation for preparation of concept, and site development plans, preliminary project designs (Landfill and Liquid waste treatment Master plan, layout of site(s) and access road, storm water diversion, planning of space requirements for office, weighbridge composting area and area for recycling, internal roads access etc.
MCEin Joint Venture with Studio GalliIngegneriaS.p.A and Sembenelli Consulting S.r.l of Italy has signed a consultancy service agreement for Construction Supervision and Contract Management works for Zarema May-Day Dam Project. May Day dam is being built on Zarema River in WolkaitWoreda, Tigray State, on 36 hectares of land. The dam will have a width of 720 meters with height of 143 meters. It creates artificial lake that collects 3.5 billion cubic meters of water when completed.
MCEis engaged by WaterAid Ethiopia to undertake capacity building program for 20 towns across the country. The work includes Assessment of implementation of WaSH services in 20 towns, indentify capacity gaps and prepare action plan, reviewing and producing adequate training materials based on the earlier produced document and conducting four sessions capacity building taing for 20 towns’ utility and municipality staff.
MCEhas signed a consultancy service agreement with SNNPR Water Bureau for Contract Administration and Construction Supervision of Arbaminch, Yirgalem, Tepi and Halaba Towns. The Contract also includes design amendments, review and updating of business plan.

MCE has signed a consultancy service agreement with Mekele Water Supply and Sewerage Service for the implementing Phase II water supply project for increased access to sustainable water supply, updating of business plan and capacity building, preparation of bid documents.
MCE is undertaking a consultancy service with agreement signed with WaterAid Ethiopia to strengthen the capacity of the Town Water board (TWB) and key utility staff with working system for better planning and implementation of their water supply systems and build their oversight and management of the system. The undertaking also includes developing a new Leakage Detection and Control Guidance manual.
MCE is undertaking a consultancy service with an agreement signed with Plan International Ethiopia to assess the potentials of ground water at shallow depth in school compound for income generation. The project is also aimed at assessing surface water options for school potable economic and income generation and assessment of potential of water connection from the existing water schemes and performs a detailed design of connection system.
MCE is undertaking a consultancy service to WaterAid Ethiopia to develop a comprehensive baseline data as per the expected impacts, outcomes, outputs and established milestones of the projects. MCE has established performance monitoring indicators and undertook inventory of existing town WASH services and assessed their performance and provided recommendation of performance and assess M & E plan of the project.

MCEhas completed a consultancy service toPartenariat Pour Le Developpement Municipal (PDM) based in Cotonu Benin Republic that coordinates program financed by the European Commission and French Agency for Development. The program is implanted in large Africa towns. The program focuses on involvement of stakeholders in the formulation phase. DebreBirhan is one of towns selected for the work. The works included base-line study, formulation of the WSS municipal strategy.

The assessment includes evaluation of the appropriateness of technical, financial, economical, social, environmental and commercial and engineering and other aspects of the feasibility studies.
MCE with a contract from Gambo Leprosy Control Center and Gambo General Rural Hospital has undertaken improvement of the mission and surrounding villages waste water management system. The work included study review,, conducting geotechnical investigation, preparation of detailed Engineering design, preparation of onsite facilities and preparation of standard specification and tender document.

MCE has conducted supervision works for the 8 Towns Immediate Rehabilitation and Expansion Construction of Water Supply in Adigrat, IndaSellassie, Maichew, Addis Zemen, Kola Diba, Dabat, Debark and FinotSelam.
MCE had undertaken improvement of towns water supply operations in Mzuzu and Karonga under the Northern Region Water Board in Malawi.The assignments includes reviewing existing water supply infrastructure and management situations and recommending improvements both in the operation and management of the system as well as the rehabilitation of essential parts.

Under agreement with Northern Region Water Board, Malawi, MCE undertook consultancy services for study design and construction supervision of Karonga and Chitipa water supply scheme project.
MCE in association with TAHAL Consulting Engineers Ltd was engaged in preliminary rehabilitation program feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed engineering designs for the water supply systems in 8 towns and for the study related to the provision of sanitation/sewerage facilities.
MCE was engaged in the Feasibility Study and Engineering Design of Ambo and Nekemte Towns Water Supply Project.
MCE has undertaken the detail engineering design and study of operational and maintenance, management set-up for Dale and Shebedino Rural Water Supply Scheme. The objective of this project is to provide adequate and safe water for over 271, 000 people. The study included assessment of manpower and financial requirements of the operation and maintenance of the system, recommend an appropriate community managed management system, study and survey of the optimal pipe line route, design of the spring intake, booster pumping stations, reservoirs and main pipe line and distribution net work in the SNNPRS, South Ethiopia.
MCE undertook the study for the improvement of the existing infrastructure, water supply, sewerage system, storm drains external works and electrical installation. MCE also conducted construction supervision for the rehabilitation works.
Under contract to Ministry of Water Resources, Malawi Government, MCE has undertaken the feasibility study of Urban and Rural Water Supply Systems.
MCE was engaged by the Ethio-Italian Development Co-operation, Arsi-Bale Rural Development Project in the Rural Water Supply design and supervision for Selka and Waltai-Sayida Communities in Bale, Region 4, Ethiopia
MCE in association with Carl Bro International undertook the Preparation of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Handbook for the Ethiopian Social Rehabilitation and Development Fund.
Gash-Barka Zone Rural Water Supply Feasibility Study in Eritrea was financed by KFW. The activities carried out were socio-economic study, groundwater assessment and design and development of prototype schemes for different village setting including operation & maintenance guidelines.
Preparation of Project Completion Report for Mpira-Balaka Rural Water Supply Project and District Water Supply, Phase II Project in Malawi for the African Development Bank.
MCE was sub-consultant to Sanyo Consultants of Japan and undertook the survey of water use and sanitary conditions as well as surveys of socio-economic and cultural background of the target population. The project was funded by Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA).
MCE through its Nairobi based subsidiary firm, MBC, and in association with ACE of Kampala, Uganda and John Van Nostrand Associates Limited (JVA) of Canada, was involved in the design and construction supervision of water supply and sanitation services for the towns of Lugazi and Wobulenzi in Uganda. The study which commenced in 1994 was based on the concept of demand-driven, community-based services.
MCE undertook the assessment of availability of ground water system for WushWush II Tea Factory and worker’s residential area and prepared designs, 1998.
MCE was engaged by the Dire-Dawa Textile Factory to assess the existing factory water demand and supply and to come up with recommendations and designs for system improvement, upgrading and/or expansion.

The study also included the provision of drinking water supplies to the small rural towns and communities around Adwa and was carried out for Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WSSA) by MCE in joint venture with DEVECON of Finland

Feasibility study and design of water supply system for Assela, Shashemane and Zeway towns and rehabilitation for 7 other towns. The study also included water supplies to the rural communities in the immediate environs of towns and was conducted for Water Supply and Sewerage Authority. A staff of MCE participated as Deputy Project Manager of the Tahal Consulting Engineers team.
Feasibility study and design of water supply and sanitation systems for 5 major towns in Ethiopia. Part of the work was undertaken by MCE as sub-consultants to DEVECON Engineers and Architects.
Feasibility study for irrigation study on 20,000 ha land and associated agro industrial establishment including the provision of drinking water supply to the surrounding rural communities. The study was conducted for ministry of state farm. A staff of MCE participated as an irrigation expert as part of Tahal Consulting Engineers team.
Investigation of ground water for factory use and preparation of tender documents
MCE in association with SINTEC undertook a study of the Management of Construction Equipment for the Ethiopian Social Rehabilitation and Development Fund. The study reviewed the existing establishment of operation and maintenance of water supply and earthworks construction equipment in Ethiopia. Over six alternatives for the management of equipment fleet were assessed and based on objective criteria established, the preferred fleet management options were ranked and recommendation provided. The study was supported by UNDP.
